RE: Microsoft Office 2007 Outlook

I don't know about 2007, but the old Outlook 2003 did the same thing. Dist. lists had to be manually updated.

RE: Places to see on route - TX to PA

I've done that trip a few times...not much to see until you get to the Shenandoah Valley. Going the other way I drive as fast as I can from Knoxville until about Albuquerque, then slow down to see the sites.

RE: I’d like your help to select a desktop PC

Top of the line iMac seems to be your best bet. You can buy Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac for Excel and Word, but I prefer Mac's iWork for spreadsheet and word processing (I have both).
The Mac's hard drive backup/file retriever utility, Time Machine, beats anything else out there by a BIG margin.

RE: My Hard Drive Failure...Thanks Time Machine!

Is time machine just an Apple thing? Can it be used on a PC? My old desk top crashed and there are things in there I'd like to retrieve. Thanks.
For PC's, you'll need to purchase a 3rd party program like Norton Ghost or Acronis to copy the disk drive image and store it on an external hard drive. Neither one approaches Time Machine in ease of use or versatility, however.
XP does have a backup utility. It's not at all easy to use or setup. I used it at work until I needed it the 1st time. Our IT contractors "updated" my desktop PC and I lost all of my documents. No problem I thought, I'll just retrieve my backup file. In typical Windows fashion, it didn't work and I was out of luck...
I've used Ghost in my past life as a Windows user, and it works.

My Hard Drive Failure...Thanks Time Machine!

Yesterday, I opened my 2 year old MacBook and it made some awful ticking/clicking noises and the computer would not start, it just had a flashing folder symbol with a question mark in it on the screen. I tried resetting the PRAM with no luck, and the noises told me the hard drive was dead in a very bad way. It would not boot from the OS X DVD. It was dead, and all my music, docs, and photos were gone. Good thing OS X has a built-in, automatic backup, Time Machine.
Well, today I bought a new 320 gig SATA drive to replace the old 160 gig Hitachi drive that came with the computer. It took about 5 minutes to replace the drive.
I put in the OS X install disk to put the OS on the new drive. After that, the installer asks if you want to transfer data off an old Mac or a Time Machine backup. I select TM backup and voila' !, everything is back on my new HD just like I left it yesterday. Thank God for TM.
I ASSUMED that the TM backup would install the latest OS and security updates...it does not. You still have to go through all the Software Updates on your own. SO after the TM backup is done, you have your computer back, but with the original OS X 10.5 on it. I had to take about an hour to get all the updates to get up to the current 10.5.5.
This was my first real opportunity to use TM as a full system backup. It worked great and was very easy to use.
Don't forget to back up!

RE: IFS vs. Straight Rail

Our current coach has a beam front end, and our last coach had IFS. They both ride the same, but the Foretravel does handle better. The IFS had a better wheel cut, but I've had no problems with not having enough wheel cut in the Foretravel.

RE: Garmin GPS, #NUV1205 or #NUV1205W

I'd wait a bit closer to Christmas to buy if you can wait. With the economy tanking and retailers in panic mode about the shopping season, this will be a great shopping season to pick up some exspensive toys.
I'm looking at buying a Nuvi 850. On Amazon, the price has dropped $20 a day for the last 2 days.

RE: New iMac computer

The 1st time Time Machine backs up can take HOURS, so you may just need to be patient with it.

RE: FIOS by Verizon. WOW!!!

I have it also. Best thing is the speed is always the same (super-fast). Unlike cable, it's not effected by how many other people are using the internet.

RE: New iMac computer

The Apple Store will move all your data and files over from your PC to your new Mac for free. Here's Apple's advice for moving the files yourself: PC to Mac.
A good place to go to have questions answered are the discussion forums on Apples website: Apple Discussions

New XM Channel Listing

XM's new channel lineup was leaked onto the web...here's a link: XM Channel Lineup. It goes into effect on 11/12.
What I'm not clear on is this the same lineup if you have Sirius?

RE: DC in mid-March?

It might be "cool" here in March, but the really bitter winter months are over by then. You'll be fine...there won't be any crowds. I avoid downtown like the plaque during the tourist-ridden summer months.

RE: Dometic weatherPro power awning

You always read a lot of people who have lots of problems with these awnings. We had them on our last coach and only had one issue with them: the awning material delaminated the 1st year we had the coach. Newmar replaced it under warranty. After that, no problems for the 3 years we had the coach.
I like the Girard awnings a LOT more on the present coach.

RE: Downloading music

I "rent" my music from Napster. Costs me about $15/mo and I can download whatever I want in up to 3 different MP3 players. I've downloaded about 1,000 songs so far, only have to be sure and connect at least once a month to synch and renew the music which takes seconds. So if/when you stop paying them $15.00 per month you will lose all the music you downloaded from them ?
That's correct: no pay, no music. Also, when (er, if) they go out of business (again) you'll lose all your music.

RE: Chrome--have any of you used it?

I've tried it, but got rid of it. I can't stand all the internet advertising out there, so I need a browser that can block it, and Chrome can't.

RE: Pulling a toad

On our last MH with a 400 hp ISL, towing cost us about 1 mpg. Does not sound so bad until you realize you're only getting 8-9 mpg to begin with. So, a bit over a 10% reduction in mileage. (This was calculated real-time using the Trip Tek computer).
This MH with a bigger engine and much higher weight is affected less, probably a bit below 10% loss of mileage.

RE: Is this possible?

When you buy a good new HD, if will come with the needed software to image your old drive onto the new one (IF your old drive is still good -- that might a problem for you.)
Otherwise, it's as you stated...set the new drive as a slave, put the image on the new disk, then set it as master and pitch the old drive.
